The Times of the Gentiles
...and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles,
until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.
Luke 21:24

The times of the Gentiles
Will come to an end,
In all they have done so corruptly;
Like any projectiles
That rise and descend,
Their fall will occur quite abruptly.

When Judah was taken
From out of the land,
The Gentile dominion extended;
No less would awaken
God’s righteous demand,
When Jews had their freedom suspended.

So this world dominion
Of Chaldean rule,
Was granted a limited season;
Their boastful opinion
From childhood to school,
Was flawed by the very same reason.

When Babylon’s era
Had lasted its course,
The Medes and the Persians succeeded;
Although not severer
In absolute force,
They could not by this be impeded.

The Scriptures predicted
Each empire in turn,
As Greece was invested directly;
Like others depicted
In records we learn,
Their strength would be cut off perfectly.

The next mighty power,
Equipped with the sword,
Would conquer by means of their legions;
Until such an hour
As set by the Lord,
Their rule will expire in all regions.

And then will the glory
Of God be revealed;
The empires of men will have vanished;
For time is God’s story
Both settled and sealed;
Satanical rule will be banished.

Generations
And hath made of one blood all nations...
that they should seek the Lord...
Acts 17:26, 27

The nations and races,
In various places,
Have come from a unified source;
An ancient prediction,
Without contradiction,
Has followed a prophesied course.

For each son of Noah
Became the bestower
Of leanings existing today;
These characteristics,
Are found in statistics,
And seen by their outward display.

Japhetic descendants,
Their sons and dependents,
Developed the north and the west;
The Hamites migrated,
To regions located,
Wherever they thought it was best.

The Semites are noted,
As writers have quoted,
For having a worshipful role;
From them came a nation,
Which had the vocation,
Of preaching the needs of the soul.

The Jews are the holders
Of all God has told us:
The Scriptures declaring His will;
From this revelation,
We learn of salvation
In Him who abides with us still.

Purchased With Blood
In Thy presence is fullness of joy;
at Thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.
Psalm 16:11

Long before the fall of man,
There had been a perfect plan;
Abel, unlike brother Cain,
Brought a lamb that had been slain.
Cain, ignoring God’s advice,
Brought a bloodless sacrifice.

When his gift the Lord declined,
Cain revealed his state of mind;
Should there not be recompense
For the labour of his hands?
Surely there is merit found,
In the produce of the ground!

But a lesson must be learned;
God’s salvation can’t be earned;
If we don’t approach His way,
But attempt another play;
We’ll continue in our plight,
With no hope or end in sight.

You’re familiar with the plot;
But in case you may be not.
Cain ignored his Master’s law;
Sin was crouching at the door;
He must overcome its lure,
Or become its slave for sure.

Cain departed to the field;
Faith was Abel’s only shield.
Would his brother make amends?
Overcome his sinful trends?
Cain at last succumbed to pride,
And committed fratricide.

Then in Genesis we’re told,
There were mighty men of old.
Offspring in a super race;
Where the godly had no place.
Save to warn about the flood,
Which would drown them all for good.

Noah built his mighty ark;
Then the sky grew dull and dark.
So the Lord God sent the flood;
Just as Noah said He would.
All the people screamed in fright,
As the day turned into night.

When the storm had reached an end,
God sent forth a drying wind.
First the mountain tops appeared,
Then the waters dried and cleared;
Life could now begin anew;
So the people grew and grew.

God had told them all to spread,
But they stayed around instead.
Fill the earth and spread abroad!
But His word was plain ignored.
In their hearts they cherished fame:
Let us make ourselves a name!

Let us build a lofty tower.
Magnify our wealth and power.
There’s no need to emigrate,
Now we’ve got this real estate.
City dwellers we shall be.
This is our security.

Then the Lord came down to view,
What their hands had turned to do.
For they spoke with single voice;
So there was no other choice
But confuse their mode of speech
So they could not hear or teach.

Thus the nations had their birth,
As they spread across the earth.
Each in its allotted land,
Granted by the Lord’s command;
With traditions, once begun,
Passed by father onto son.

Ever since man lost the rule,
He’s become the devil’s tool.
History bears out the lie,
Satan said, You shall not die.
Thus deceiving every man,
From the day the world began.

Cain and Abel illustrate,
What becomes of man’s estate,
When God’s laws are set aside,
And we share the devil’s pride.
Cain despised intrinsic good;
Abel trusted in the blood.

Adam and Eve
For Adam was first formed, then Eve.
1 Timothy 2:13

While Adam was tending the garden alone,
His wife was conversing with someone unknown;
The Lord had delivered His solemn decree:
You shall not partake of that good-evil tree.

Now Adam was blest with a brilliant mind;
He named all the animals after their kind;
Yet while he was tending his portion of land,
Events in the garden had got out of hand.

His wife and co-helper while out on a walk,
Had got well engrossed in some credible talk;
For she was informed by a creature of light
That God was concealing some things from her sight.

The very same fruit tree she saw with her eyes,
Was just the solution for making her wise;
A food for enjoyment and pleasant to see;
It sounded coherent she had to agree.

So being deceived by this plausible speech,
She thought this objective was well in her reach;
For being like God with the knowledge it brings,
Must surely be ranked above all other things.

Yet sadly, however, she found with dismay,
Consuming the fruit had not proven that way;
Instead of the prospect of being so great,
Her nature took on a rebellious state.

Her husband, in eating the fruit by his choice,
And not having heard that insidious voice,
Became the prime author of sin for the race,
And thus he established his cardinal place.

They knew they were naked from head to the toe,
And quickly sought refuge for somewhere to go;
They hid in the bushes and covered their parts,
For sin and its guilt had infected their hearts.

When questioned by God as to why they were there,
They did not confess with a penitent air,
But made an excuse and apportioned the blame
To some other creature as we do the same.

The Lord made a coat for them each out of skins,
Symbolic of that which would cover their sins;
So they were expelled from their brief paradise,
To live out their lives in a world full of vice.

We all are descended from this leading pair,
Complete with their nature, its fall and despair;
So while we remain on this sin-blighted earth,
We need a new nature by spiritual birth.

The Lord did not leave them without any hope,
But gave them a promise with limitless scope;
The Seed of the Woman, according to plan,
Would purchase salvation for woman and man.

The Helpmate
Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
Ephesians 5:21

Creation could not function
Till the woman had appeared;
For man she was an unction,
And to him she was endeared.

The woman has the honour
Of a close supporting role;
With beauty placed upon her,
She attracts the manly soul.

She was the proper helpmate
That would satisfy his need;
But soon would come the mandate
For an Overcoming Seed.

As chosen by her Maker,
She enjoys the royal care;
For no one else could take her
To be mother, wife and heir.

The Lord has honoured woman
As the vehicle He chose;
A providential omen
On which faithful men repose.

The menfolk are indebted
To the women by their side;
And never once regretted
In the Lord as they abide.

Order Out Of Chaos
And he that sat upon the throne said,
Behold, I make all things new.
Revelation 21:5

At the beginning of time we are told,
God made the earth and the heavens of old;
He spoke the word of command and they came;
Each of the stars He established by name.

Then as we read of the state of the earth:
Formless and void; could this be at its birth?
Many would speculate why this should be;
Would God create such a dark entity?

Then God provided a life-giving heat;
Each day attested a wonderful feat;
Light was divided from darkness below;
Daytime was born on this planet we know.

Further divisions then duly took place;
Dry land appeared on the earth at its face;
Waters were gathered together as Seas;
Each preparation was made by degrees.

Plants and the animal kingdoms were made;
Lights in the heavens appeared as He bade;
One that is greater to rule in the day;
That which is less with its lunar display.

Then on the sixth day, not being the least,
God made the cattle and four-footed beast;
Thus was the setting for God’s perfect plan:
Out of the dust He created a man.

In His own image thus God made the race;
Both male and female, each having a place;
Given dominion of all living things:
Fish of the sea and the birds having wings.

Bear fruit and multiply, thus was the charge;
For by this method the race would enlarge;
Both man and woman were happy and free;
Test of their will would devolve on a tree.

All other fruit they could freely partake;
But one commandment they never must break;
If they should eat of the fruit God denied,
Spiritual life would no longer abide.

Life in the Spirit is God’s greatest gift;
Once violated it opens a rift;
They both rejected God’s resolute word;
Now His perfection has long been deferred.

So many ages have passed on the scene;
Never has life been sedate or serene;
But when the Saviour returns in His might,
All the disorder He’ll surely put right.

The Seed and the Serpent
And I will put enmity between thee and the woman,
and between thy seed and her seed;
it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
Genesis 3:15

In all the Holy Scriptures in their standing,
We find that man must bow before the Throne;
The woman’s role is nowhere less demanding,
For man was not designed to be alone.

The woman was designed to be beside him,
To render due assistance in his call;
His leadership as head was not denied him,
For that was delegated at the Fall.

For woman is the key to man’s survival,
As children are the product of her womb;
We celebrate the news of each arrival,
But mourn the loss of any at the tomb.

Now Eve was called the mother of all living,
Her seed would crush the serpent on its head;
This well established truth that we are giving,
Is vital for the living and the dead.

The Seed was God incarnate as recorded,
The serpent was defeated at the Cross;
The one receiving Christ will be rewarded,
And never suffer hell or any loss.

Perfect Provision
Let us make man in our image.
Genesis 1:26

The Lord within His counsel said,
Let us make man creation’s head,
And let them in our likeness be,
With rulership of land and sea.

So man was fashioned from the ground,
But not a helper could be found;
He took a rib from Adam’s side,
And built a woman for his bride.

He told them both to multiply,
Be fruitful, as the words imply;
Go fill the earth; subdue the land;
I’ve placed all creatures in your hand.

I’ve given every tree for food;
For nothing could be misconstrued;
The tree of life was in the midst,
Significant upon the list.

The tree of knowledge God had made,
With fruit as other trees displayed;
Such knowledge that the Lord denied,
With access to a darker side.

So as the woman had been named,
They both were naked, unashamed;
Therefore a man shall leave his folk,
And share a matrimonial yoke.

Noah
But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.
Genesis 6:8

Back in the days of the flood that we read
Upsets were rampant with gathering speed
Total disaster
Nearing and faster
Occupied those who had thus taken heed.

Actions of sinners had gotten perverse
Hasting upon them a heaven-sent curse
Few were remaining
Only sustaining
Under a climate declining and worse.

Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord
Drawing his faith from the doctrine he stored
Grounded and ready
Restful and steady
As he preached constantly, not overawed.

Constant and clear was his reverent plea
Everyone living could patently see
In their behaviour
Norms had no flavour
Totally bad as we humans can be.

He was instructed on building a barge
Engineered stable, seaworthy and large
Earnest in preaching
Years in outreaching
Entreating sinners for thus was his charge.

Such is the trend of our short history
Only in hindsight we’re able to see
Frail in our nature
Tied down in stature
Hoping and yearning that we could be free.

Everyone hearing the gospel must know
Love came among us and dwelt here below
Only in Jesus
Richly He sees us
Deem Him your Saviour wherever you go.

Babel
Therefore is the name of it called Babel;
because the LORD did there confound
the language of all the earth.
Genesis 11:9

Babel means confusion;
Strife and disillusion;
Language had been common up till then.
Waters had receded;
Warnings went unheeded;
Giving rise to unity of men.

Nimrod built his tower;
Brandishing his power;
Reaching up to heaven, so he thought.
After all his mapping,
Judgment caught him napping,
Thus his high ambitions came to nought.

With their speech confounded,
Lofty thoughts were grounded;
Families were scattered far and wide.
In a world divided,
Oneness is provided:
Resting in our Saviour Lord and Guide.

Abraham
In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.
Genesis 22:14

When people spread across the earth descended from the Flood;
And prospects for the world at large did not look very good;
The Lord spoke to a certain man; a citizen of Ur.
He told Abram to pack his bags and get away from there.

He was not disobedient on hearing such a call;
But took his wife and family and left the city sprawl.
He stayed at Haran for a while until his father died;
And then he set off for the land which God had signified.

He took his nephew Lot with him aboard his caravan;
And all the people he’d acquired while staying at Haran.
They entered Canaan, passing through where providence would lead;
And then the Lord conferred on him a future title deed.

He promised He would give this land to his posterity.
Then Abram built a holy shrine in faith and piety.
He moved from there and pitched his tent with Bethel on the west.
And then he journeyed further south where God prepared a test.

A famine came upon the land; the dearth was quite severe.
He went to Egypt needlessly, preoccupied with fear.
He reckoned that the local men would eye his comely wife,
And take her as their property and terminate his life.

He told his wife to fabricate a diplomatic lie;
He thought it would insure against the dangers coming by.
Please say you are my sister that it may go well for me.
However, his deceptive ploy did not end happily.

The princes of the royal court spoke highly of his spouse;
And Sarai promptly found herself confined in Pharaoh’s house.
The monarch treated Abram well expressly for her sake;
For she was very beautiful; a prize which he could take.

The Lord struck Pharaoh and his house because of Abram’s wife;
And so he called him into court to answer for the strife.
What is this thing you’ve done to me? Why did you tell me so?
I might have gone and married her! Now take your wife and go!

He went back to the promised land now richer than before;
Increased in wealth and property and livestock even more.
His nephew Lot had flocks and herds and both men shared the land.
The ground could not support them both with such a big demand

The herdsmen started quarrelling about the lack of feed;
And therefore they must separate and find another mead.
Though Abram was the patriarch he gave the choice to Lot,
So he could take his sheep and goats and find another plot.

As Lot looked out across the heath he saw a garden scene:
The plain of Jordan overspread with pastures lush and green.
He journeyed east and pitched his tent by Sodom on the plain;
But those who lived within the town were wicked and profane.

A war broke out within the land and Sodom was attacked.
They captured Lot, now resident, when all the town was sacked.
The news was brought to Abram by an escapee who ran.
Then Abram took three hundred men and followed them to Dan.

He there divided up his group and fell on them at night.
The enemy were so confused they ran away in fright.
He rescued all the people who were captured on the plain,
And brought them back with all the goods to Canaan once again.

Two monarchs met him as he reached the Valley of the Kings.
The king of Sodom heard the news about these happenings.
Melchizedek, the priestly king, came out with bread and wine;
And blessed him and the Most High God for victory divine.

Then Abram gave a tithe of all to Salem’s priestly king.
The king of Sodom had a plan he thought that he could swing;
Give me the persons, said the king, but take the goods yourself.
But Abram would not take a thread; he recognised his stealth.

Now Sarai with the passing years had not borne any seed.
She had a young Egyptian maid who might address the need.
She said to Abram, wistfully, The Lord’s prevented me;
Please go into my handmaid’s room and do accordingly.

Her husband did as she proposed and lo, the maid conceived.
When Sarai saw the damage done which could not be retrieved,
She dealt so harshly with her maid that Hagar ran away;
For they could not be reconciled about this pregnancy.

She fled into the wilderness and rested by a fount.
An Angel came and spoke with her and she gave her account.
He told her to retrace her steps and yield to Sarai’s will;
For she would duly have a son and call his name Ishmael.

Now when Abram was ninety-nine the Lord appeared once more;
Establishing His covenant which He had made before.
No longer shall your name be called as hitherto, Abram;
But father of a multitude: you shall be Abraham.

And you shall not address your wife as Sarai as you do;
But you shall call her Sarah now and I will bless her too;
For you shall have a son by her; she’ll mother realms and kings.
Then Abraham fell on his face and laughed about these things.

It came to pass as Abraham was taking rest one day;
He saw three men were standing by not very far away.
The Lord had brought His messengers; the guardians of His law;
Who did not follow Lucifer in aeons long before.

He ran to meet them from his tent and bowed toward the ground;
And offered them his services if favour had been found.
They asked of Sarah’s whereabouts. He said, She’s in the tent.
Now Sarah was quite curious about this incident.

The Lord said, I will certainly return to you again;
And when the time is realised your wife shall have a son.
She overheard Him say these things and laughed impulsively;
For in her heart she reasoned, I’m too old, how can it be?

The Lord said, Why did Sarah laugh? yet all the while He knew.
Cannot the Lord do anything He said that He will do?
And after this the men arose and looked across the ley,
And Abraham accompanied them to send them on their way.

The cities on the Jordan plain were totally depraved;
Their vile, perverted way of life had rendered them enslaved.
The Lord said, I will go and see if what I’ve heard is true;
The outcry has come unto Me; if not then I will know.

The men set off toward the plain while Abraham remained.
He had a problem on his mind which could not be explained.
Will You destroy the righteous with the ones committing sin?
Shall not the Judge of all the earth deliver those within?

Thus Abraham pursued his plea, petitioning the Lord;
Who gave him reassurance so his faith would be restored.
If there were found ten righteous ones residing in the town,
He would not overthrow the place by calling judgment down.

The conversation ended there; the Lord went on His way.
The men approached the city gate around the close of day.
Now Lot was sitting at the gate which opens on the square,
Where he could see those passing by along its thoroughfare.

He rose to meet them, bowing low, and asked if they would stay,
And lodge with him for just the night and then go on their way.
They answered, No, we’ll spend the night here in this open space.
But when he kept on pressing them they rested at his place.

He made a dinner for his guests and baked unleavened bread.
And so they ate and supped with him before he went to bed.
The men of Sodom, young and old, had gathered round the door;
They called on Lot to bring them out; but he could see the score.

He went outside and closed the door behind him as he went;
He knew of their perversity and sensed their vile intent.
I have two virgin daughters here; do with them as you please.
But still the men derided him and set aside his pleas.

They pressed up hard against him and would not be pacified.
The angels reached out through the door and pulled him back inside.
The men were struck with blindness which created quite a scene;
For now they could not find the door or where it might have been.

The angels ordered Lot to go and warn his family;
And take them all away from there as quickly as could be.
The Lord will overthrow this place! Now go and tell your folk!
But when Lot told his sons-in-law they thought it was a joke.

When morning came his visitors were urging him to flee;
For Lot did not appear convinced of this calamity.
Take both your wife and daughters out in case you are consumed!
For punishment is near at hand! This dwelling place is doomed!

They took them from their city home and warned them once again:
Flee quickly to the mountains or you’ll perish on the plain!
But Lot feared that some evil thing would overtake his soul.
He knew a city, which, he said, could play a saving role.

See now, this place is near enough! Please let me hasten there!
They granted him this final plea with little time to spare.
The sun had risen on the earth when Lot arrived in Zoar;
And then the wrath of heaven fell and Sodom was no more.

The Lord was very merciful allowing Lot to flee.
His wife became a monument preserved for history.
Instead of fleeing with her folk she lingered on behind.
Her plight is held before us as a warning to mankind.

Now Sarah had a baby son when time had been fulfilled.
His father called him Isaac and they loved the little child.
With two boys living in the home it brought domestic pain;
For Sarah saw her handmaid’s son treat Isaac with disdain.

She therefore said to Abraham, Now cast this woman out!
Her son shall not be heir with mine! of that she had no doubt.
So Abraham provided food and sent them both away.
The Lord made him an Arab race which still exists today.

It happened sometime afterward that God designed a test;
And Abraham would have to choose the one he loved the best.
The Lord said, Take thine only son and get thee to Moriah;
And offer there thy well-beloved, an offering by fire.

He rose up early in the morn and so prepared his ride.
He took two men along with him and Isaac by his side.
The third day out he saw the mount as God had clearly said.
He told the men to stay and rest while he went on ahead.

The lad and I will worship there and then we will return;
For Abraham believed that God would raise his son again.
He took the wood of offering and laid it on his son;
Then took the knife and fire with him and both continued on.

They reached the place of sacrifice; the father set his face;
He built an altar out of stones and put the wood in place;
And then he bound his only son and laid him on the wood;
Then took the sacrificial knife intent on shedding blood.

The Angel of the Lord called down, he answered, I am here.
Do not afflict the lad, He called, for now I know you fear.
Just then a ram had got itself entangled in a briar;
He took the ram and offered it upon the altar fire.

The Angel called a second time with blessings on his seed;
Because you’ve not withheld your son; your only son indeed;
I’ll multiply you progeny as sand upon the shore;
And in your Seed shall humankind be blessed forevermore.

Manifestation
Because that which may be known of God
is manifest in them.
Romans 1:19a

We all have received revelation
Repeated by day and by night;
The witness of God in creation,
And knowing the wrong from the right.

Awareness of God as Creator
Is common, as anyone knows;
That He is the One who is greater
Is known by a child as it grows.

Our God has implanted within us,
A moral and sensitive mind;
Because we are evil and sinners,
Our thoughts are not clearly defined.

Degrees of progressive unveiling,
Are part of our spiritual food;
For Christians who study unfailing,
Redemption is well understood.

The Bible gives knowledge specific,
Of truth that is settled and sealed;
Rejection of Christ is horrific,
In light of the knowledge revealed.

We firstly decide from our conscience,
That God is almighty and real;
But should we assert this is nonsense,
Our fate we most certainly seal.

As God is both real and revealing,
He always will answer our call;
It does not depend on our feeling;
The issue is faith after all.

Cause
Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth?
declare, if thou hast understanding. When the morning
stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
Job 38:4, 7

Before God made His creatures,
Or earth received its form,
It rested with the Mighty One to formulate the norm;
The universal features,
As much as we can see,
Are so designed to satisfy a role in history.

The circular attractions,
Of matter large and small,
Are evident by telescope or in the science hall;
We marvel at the actions,
Which keep them in their paths,
And from their stable characters we standardise our maths.

There is a great Designer
Controlling everything:
The many constellations or the sparrow on the wing;
The largest ocean liner
That ever put to sea,
Would never reach its port of call if facts did not agree.

The law of gravitation
That holds us in our place;
The measureless dimensions that we commonly call space;
All form a grand equation
That echoes and coheres;
Maintaining checks and balances throughout the passing years.

This wonderful creation
And marvellous expanse
Was brought into existence by the Master’s strict commands;
We share the exultation
That angels once portrayed,
The day they sang that joyful song when earth and sky were made.

Blessing and Cursing
I will bless them that bless thee,
and curse him that curseth thee:
and in thee shall all the families
of the earth be blessed.
Genesis 12:3

The Lord had said to Abraham,
Go forth from where you are,
And leave your kindred, everyone,
Unto a land afar.

A nation will I make of you,
And bless you as I swear;
Your name will be respected too,
And you shall be an heir.

For blessing will I send on those
Who bless you on your path;
But I will curse those who oppose,
And curse you in their wrath.

Two Federal Heads
The first man is of the earth, earthy:
the second Man is the Lord from heaven.
1 Corinthians 15:47

In his providential station,
Adam heads the human race,
And the world at large inherits his transgression;
For the sixth day of creation
Marked his individual place,
And the rulership became his sole possession.

Blest with intellect and freedom,
All the earth was at his feet,
And environmental pleasures were abundant;
In the paradise of Eden
There was happiness complete,
With no factor that was surplus or redundant.

He had heard from his Creator
Solemn words he understood,
That would guarantee his freedom from diversions;
For God knew that sometime later,
In the guise of evil good,
His sworn enemy would come and cast aspersions.

It was in this spirit’s cunning,
With the knowledge he possessed,
Not to try and tempt the man with his suggestions;
For the risk he would be running
Was debatable at best,
So he sidled to the wife with leading questions.

By allowing this accuser
To distort His holy word,
God would verify if Adam could be trusted;
For he knew this one would use her,
With his parlance vaguely blurred,
And arouse the newfound sense with which she lusted.

Adam fell from his position
When he listened to his wife,
And rebelled against the Lord and what He’d spoken;
Now his permanent condition
Would be aimlessness and strife,
For his fellowship with God was sadly broken.

It was God’s innate intention
To appoint another One,
Who would rule the world His enemy had wrested;
With a claim that lacked pretension
When all other hope was gone,
He fulfilled the royal law that God requested.

Yet the kingdom He presented
To the people with His views
Was rejected on the terms of their repentance;
For His doctrine was resented
By the legalistic Jews,
Who imposed upon themselves a rigid sentence.

Yet the royal proclamation
Will be heralded one day,
When the King returns to take up His possession;
With a shout of acclamation
He will come in bright array,
And His coming will begin His royal session.

For the desert lands will flourish,
And the lions will be tame,
And the people will be learning war no longer;
While the progeny they nourish,
Not impoverished nor lame,
Will be governed by the Lord forever stronger.

All the earth will be replenished
With the glory of the Lord,
And the poor will be regarded with compassion;
Every need will have diminished,
For His wealth will spread abroad,
And His providence will prosper without ration.

Institutions
…and the government shall be upon His shoulder…
Isaiah 9:6

The Scripture starts with Genesis,
The origin of things;
Of Lucifer our nemesis,
With evil that he brings.

The book contains a vital key
To all that has ensued;
The battle lines of history,
Humanity has rued.

The institutions set in place
Our individual roles;
Defining for the human race
Our merits and our goals.

The Fall has placed each institute
Beneath enormous stress;
Yet many people resolute
Have proved them nonetheless.

We choose our hope or destiny
Whenever it arrives;
To settle our dependency
At death and through our lives.

The marriage vow unites a pair
Within a solemn oath;
So children need parental care
Contributed by both.

The governments were introduced
As agents of the law;
Though standards have become reduced
In time of peace and war.

In setting these legalities,
The Lord will see them through;
All earthly abnormalities
Will disappear from view.

Conscience
And they which heard it, being convicted
by their own conscience, went out one by one,
beginning at the eldest, even unto the last…
John 8:9

The witness around in creation,
Provides an objective narration;
Its story is told,
To young and to old,
Whatever their race or location.

Creation must have a Creator;
A Person inherently greater;
The ones who disclaim
His glorious name,
Are bound by a cruel dictator.

We all have a conscience alerted;
Responsive within the converted;
Whereas the unsaved,
Deceived and depraved,
Discredit the message asserted.

Our conscience bears witness within us,
That we are inveterate sinners;
We all miss the mark,
And stay in the dark,
Unless revelation can win us.

God-consciousness has been provided;
We cannot remain undecided;
It marks out the gate,
As Scriptures relate,
To hell or a bliss undivided.

The conscience and will are connected,
As options are thereby selected;
The gospel of grace,
Determines our place,
As Christ is received or rejected.

Your Decision
And as it is appointed unto men once to die,
but after this the judgment:
So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many...
Hebrews 9:27, 28a

When man was created
From dust of the earth,
His body was formed with its tissue;
For so it is stated,
Preceding his birth,
For testing was not yet the issue.

The spirit imparted
From God as He breathed,
Enlivened him into a being;
His soul-life was started
As something bequeathed,
In all that the Lord was foreseeing.

The spirit is vital
For living with Him,
Who made us, reflecting His glory;
He gave man the title,
Not anyway dim,
To write a significant story.

The test of volition
Is always in view,
In line with God’s sovereign choices;
In any condition
His ruling is true,
Although there are dissident voices.

The Spirit who quickens,
Is also the One
Who teaches, enables, empowers;
The deathblow that sickens
When all hope is gone
Cannot be placated with flowers.

But when a soul passes
From death into life
By trusting the Lord as his Saviour;
No sin that amasses,
No anguish or strife,
Can separate man from His favour.

Genesis
And I will put enmity between thee and the woman,
and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise
thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
Genesis 3:15

As God chose the mode of creation,
He also gave freedom its station;
For only volition
Could bring a condition
In keeping with life expectation.

Our parents defied the instruction
Provided for godly production;
For Adam decided
With whom he had sided,
When Eve was deceived by seduction.

This sinful defiant intrusion
Brought total satanic confusion;
But God was foreknowing
The way they were going
And had a redemptive solution.

The seed of the woman, He stated,
Would conquer the one who is hated;
When sin is defeated
And punishment meted,
The Saviour will be elevated.

So history started its stages,
Oppressed with angelic rampages;
For evil’s dispersal
Became universal,
Which brought on the flood with its wages.

As cosmic disorder descended,
And sinful behaviour extended,
A Gentile believer
Became the receiver
Of promises time has defended.

His children would be a great nation,
Although he was past procreation;
His wife was past bearing,
Yet God the all-caring,
Renewed the productive equation.

The son born uniquely to Sarah,
Gave joy to both father and bearer;
For Sarah’s son Laughter,
Continued the chapter,
That God had declared as the Carer.

The twins born to Isaac directly,
Were brought up in part incorrectly;
When Jacob the younger
Relieved Isaac’s hunger
His brother reacted abjectly.

As Jacob went off from the feuding,
That followed his artful intruding,
He met a relation
While at a sheep station
With romance and marriage concluding.

To make a long story much shorter,
He fathered twelve sons and a daughter;
Then Judah’s election
Became the direction
Of tribal descent, the transporter.

Significant Places
I go to prepare a place for you.
John 14:2

There are certain places in our thinking;
Maybe it’s a favourite retreat,
Or a special place that we are linking
With a truth that’s precious or discreet.

Eden was a garden without equal;
Filling every soul and body need;
Disobedience brought a tragic sequel:
Fellowship with God was lost indeed.

Wandering is not the normal order,
Even more for children domiciled;
Cain’s behaviour went beyond the border;
Banishment was passed upon this child.

Nod became the land of his sojourning,
Restless as a soul away from God;
Lessons for us all we should be learning:
Hell will be our self-inflicted Nod.

Babel is a place where men were scattered;
Building up their tower on the plain;
But their aspirations soon were shattered;
Worldly aberrations are in vain.

Paradise will be a place of pleasure,
As the gospel light has truly beamed;
For tis there the Lord has stored His treasure,
Sharing with the saints He has redeemed.

His Story
Genesis

Heaven and earth shall pass away,
but my words shall not pass away.
Matthew 24:35

Let us review this canonical book,
So we may grasp its intention;
There are some factors we can’t overlook:
Prophecies that we should mention.

Genesis opens the Bible account;
It is the book of foundations;
Just like the water that springs from a fount,
Spreading abroad through the nations.

After the earth and the heavens were made,
Mankind was given its order;
Earthbound conditions were settled and staid;
Freewill was marked by a border.

When sin had entered the order was changed;
Degeneration had started;
What had been perfect was now disarranged;
Friendship with God had departed.

So we observe a rebellious trend;
Righteousness thereby diminished;
Nowhere a deed that the Lord could commend;
Mankind appeared to be finished.

Yet there was one who found mercy and grace:
Noah along with his dearest;
But for the rest they would go to a place,
Under a judgment severest.

Now a new civilisation began;
Split into nations at Babel;
Nothing could possibly alter God’s plan,
Always progressive and stable.

God spoke to Abram a Gentile of Ur;
Leave your abode, He directed;
When he had duly departed from there,
Faith was the law he respected.

From this man’s body a Seed would appear,
Destined before time had started;
Duly predicted by prophet and seer,
Giving the life He imparted.

From this beginning the story moves on;
Isaac was next in progression;
For unto Abraham God gave a son,
Now his most dearest possession.

Then Isaac’s son would continue the line;
Fathering tribes on his station;
Judah was chosen by royal design,
Into the next generation.

So this book closes with Egypt in view:
Jacob’s descendants sojourning;
They will remain till their rescue is due,
Ably revealed for our learning

Divine Imprint
Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour
and power: for thou hast created all things, and for
thy pleasure they are and were created.
Revelation 4:11

Our God is three,
And He is one,
Devoid of contradiction;
And so we see
What He has done,
In making this distinction.

The Trinity
Contains the key
To all our understanding;
As there must be
A harmony
In what this is demanding.

The Father planned
With righteous hand
Our wonderful salvation;
The Son endured
The goal secured
Through much humiliation.

The Spirit’s power
At every hour
Sustained the Incarnation;
It satisfied
And glorified
The God of all creation.

This threesome-ness,
Is what we stress,
As that which God created;
In time or space,
Or rocky face,
This grouping is located.

Our human form
Has got a norm
Of body, soul and spirit;
It cannot start
Without each part
In life that we inherit.

In summary
We must agree
Creation tells the story;
The earth and skies,
Before our eyes,
Reflect His matchless glory.

The Last Call
Come thou and all thy house into the ark;
Genesis 7:1

As in the days that preceded the Flood,
When every evil was raging;
So it is now as the law is withstood,
Judgment is set for the staging.

There was a refuge provided of old,
Though many years in the making;
They heard the preaching for thus it was told:
Rescue was there for the taking.

Finally when all the saved were inside,
God closed the door of decision;
And so today we must duly decide,
Or face a lasting division.

Inside the ark they were safe from the storm;
God had so patiently waited;
He had repeatedly stated the norm,
Known by the world He created.

We have a conscience that lives with the soul,
Knowing that God is Creator;
Each soul is set on its self-chosen goal;
Death will reveal what is later.

Jesus is calling us into the ark;
He is the God-given Saviour;
Without Himself we shall stay in the dark,
Let us choose now and not waver.

Origins
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
Genesis 1:1

Origins are everywhere disputed;
Theories are fancied far and wide;
Often by professors well reputed;
Shrugging off the Scriptures as a guide.

God is not a part of His creation;
He is both eternal and supreme;
Everyone He made has got a station;
Some to be the members of a team.

Angels were created with volition;
Satan chose to exercise his will;
He is destined for a lost perdition;
On the day he takes that bitter pill.

Origins of choice are documented;
Satan wanted everything his way;
Any such response should be lamented;
We have got the options every day.

Jesus Christ the Lord is our Creator;
Adam was the creature that He made;
Eve was introduced a short time later;
God had set the moral grounds displayed.

Would they be believing and obedient?
Did they hear God’s absolute decree?
His command was no way inconvenient;
Keeping it ensured they would be free.

Adam chose to disobey his Master;
His decision brought about the fall;
So there followed consequent disaster;
Sin has infiltrated one and all.

Origins progress to their production;
God has made the choice to give His Son;
Do not stay in Satan’s strong seduction;
Trust in Jesus Christ the Chosen One.

The Abrahamic Covenant
…in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
Genesis 12:3

The Abrahamic Covenant
Is pivotal and sure;
Its promises are evident,
And ever will endure

Displaying God’s integrity
To all the human race:
His faithfulness and sovereignty
Which nothing can erase

This Covenant for every age
Does not depend on man;
Its outworking at every stage
Will terminate God’s plan

It promises for Israel,
And all the nations too,
A kingdom that will far excel
All others passing through

It tells about the Promised Seed
Who came in history;
And by His every word and deed
Revealed His deity

He will return a Second Time
To occupy His throne:
A thousand years of rule sublime
With those He calls His own

Source
For thus says the LORD, who created the heavens,
who is God, who formed the earth and made it,
who has established it, who did not create it in vain,
who formed it to be inhabited:
I am the LORD, and there is no other.
Isaiah 45:18

When God had created
This earthly domain,
The angelic creatures were singing,
As Scripture has stated,
This happy refrain,
Is ever incessantly ringing.

The earth was in darkness,
Without any form,
The water upon it was frozen;
This desolate starkness,
While never the norm,
Would not be the form God had chosen.

The Spirit was brooding,
Now over the deep,,
With life-giving heat that was needed;
This needful intruding,
Like waking from sleep,
Began the six days that proceeded.

Then God gave an order,
Now let there be light!
And light was as God had commanded,
With darkness its border,
For such is the night,
Day one was displaying the standard.

The five days thereafter,
By holy command,
With land, sea and sky in their places,
Occur in this chapter:
The work of His hand,
And all that creation embraces.

The work now was finished,
Pronounced very good,
Designed by the Lord in perfection;
Though much has diminished
Through shedding of blood,
We look to the Lord’s resurrection.

The future is certain:
A new day is planned,
Eternal, with joy never ending.
When God lifts the curtain,
And dying is banned,
His praise will be ever ascending.

The Token
I will praise thee, O LORD, with my whole heart;
I will shew forth all thy marvellous works.
Psalm 9:1

I will praise Thee, O my LORD
When my foes are taken
In the presence of Thy sword
Loftiness is shaken
Let Thy powerful, living word
Prosper unforsaken.

Resting in Thy providence
All Thy foes are thwarted
Insofar as their defence
Simply is contorted
Emptiness their recompense
Thus is folly courted.

Heed the longings of my heart
Evermore be near me
Every soul must have a part
Only Thou dost cheer me
Let Thy grace illume my heart
On Thy path to steer me.

Recklessly I wandered far
Darkening and deeper
When I saw the Morning Star
I beheld my Keeper
Tasteful as a mountain spa
Help when paths grow steeper.

Mine the body, Thou the Head
Yearnings never leave us
While our life hangs by a thread
Hope can never grieve us
Opportune, our daily bread
Linking up like weavers.

Ever since the world began
History has spoken
Energies by mortal man
Aid a soul awoken
Resting in God’s perfect plan
Truth, the Saviour’s token.

Heavenly Speech
The heavens declare the glory of God;
and the firmament sheweth his handiwork.
Psalm 19:1

The heavens are telling God’s glory on high
His handiwork etched in the stars in the sky
Each having a glory uniquely its own
Harnessed to the planets as locked in a zone
Enchanted we gaze at this wonderful sight
Arrayed for our pleasure by night after night.

Vast galaxies shining, their number untold
Enhancing our darkness as ages unfold
Not only in brightness but differ in size
Surpassing in wonder their form to our eyes
Declaring the realm of this great universe
Existing till time has exhausted the curse.

Can anyone guess the dimension of space?
Leave others to work out the facts they can trace
Assess for a moment the vast Milky Way
Researchers and experts have all had their say.
Enlightened believers who trust in the Lord
Take comfort in God with the wisdom they’ve stored.

Has anyone pondered the sun or the moon?
Exact as created; forever in tune
Great is our Creator; He does all things well
Located in splendour and clear as a bell
O let us with praises give thanks to His name
Resplendent in majesty, always the same.

Young people, take note as the years come and go
Our days are all numbered by God even so
Fix all your attention on Jesus Most High
Give Him your submission before you must die
Owe no one a debt but true love from the heart
Delight in the Lord in each day from the start.

Assurance
…the LORD came unto Abram in a vision,
saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield,
and thy exceeding great reward.
Genesis 15:1

For Abraham and all his seed
Election is the token
A token as a title deed
Recorded as was spoken
Not only would the Spirit lead
Outstanding doors would open.

The pattern of this incident
Announced to our dear brother
Becomes a standing precedent
Reserved for one another
Awaiting every complement
Made clear as we discover.

In progress of our history
Amendments are inserted
Much prophecy is mystery
Till it has been adverted
Home-teaching is a legacy
Young people are alerted.

So in the last analysis
Held onto when we know it
Instruction is the emphasis
Except we overthrow it
Let all our days be witnesses
Devoted lives will show it.

Creation
In the beginning God created
the heaven and the earth.
Genesis 1:1

The wonder of creation,
Is God's own revelation;
It happened in a single point of time.
Though scientists debate it,
The Scriptures clearly state it,
In language transcendental and sublime.

When all has been computed,
Objections are refuted;
They cannot stand when placed against the text.
The claims of evolution,
Are just a vain solution,
For what has been and what is coming next.
